| We began offering services to the public in 1994 following the
retirement of J. B."Brad" Shepherd, PE, after thirty-three years in
practice as a professional engineer employed in industry. Brad continued
to receive calls from former business associates and clients with
requests to continue the engineering consultation that had become a
regular service to the customers of his former employer. With the staff
reductions and re-directions preeminent in the new corporate culture,
the level of personalized customer service offered in the past is no
longer available. The resulting public shift to private consultants was
a necessary but welcome change.
The first calls for assistance came from the legal profession. We
were able to provide the answers to the engineering and design questions
that perplex lawyers in planning and presenting eminent domain and
personal injury litigation.
Soon, referrals brought inquiries from insurance adjusters,
underwriters and loss reduction and restoration companies. We added two
associates and began offering insurance consulting as a regular service
in 1996.
In 1997, we expanded our design and consultation services to builders
and developers and to local and state government. The consideration of
cost, design and policy matters in the accommodation of electric
utilities in public and private rights-of-way has become a major segment
of our business. In these matters, both the utilities and their
customers have joined our client base.
Litigation support,
electrical utility power transmission, distribution and delivery are
areas of specialty. Since 1994, we have participated in over
175 litigation matters, being retained evenly by counsel for Plaintiff
and for Defense. J.B. Shepherd, P.E. has testified in depositions or court in over 50 litigated matters. |
